In the first update to Track and Field News magazine's women's indoor dual meet rankings, LSU continues to lead Texas A&M.  A showdown between the rival teams, along with #5 Arkansas, looms on Saturday at Texas A&M's Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.

The full rankings:

1. LSU (0-0)

2. Texas A&M (0-0)

3. Kansas (2-0)

4. Nebraska (0-0)

5. Arkansas (1-0)

6. Michigan State (0-0)

7. Indiana State (2-0)

8. Michigan (0-0)

9. Eastern Michigan (2-0)

10. Indiana (1-0)

11. Princeton (3-0)

12. Kent State (0-0)

13. Purdue (0-1)

14. North Dakota State (2-0)

15. Western Michigan (1-0)

16. Illinois State (0-1)

17. Kansas State (0-0)

18. Alabama (0-0)

19. Eastern Illinois (0-1)

20. Dartmouth (0-0)

The big LSU-Arkansas-Texas A&M triangular on Saturday is not the only major upcoming meet.  Also on Saturday, #7 Indiana State travels to #13 Purdue for the 18th annual Gene Edmonds Cup, a meet the Sycamores seek to win for the first time ever.  The following Saturday will see #6 Michigan State and #8 Michigan fight it out in neutral territory in Allendale, Michigan.

The SEC, a tough conference in any sport, provides three of the top five teams (LSU, Texas AM, Arkansas).  The Big Ten, however, has the most teams in the top twenty with five (Nebraska, Michigan State, Michigan, Indiana, Purdue).  The Mid-American Conference is next best with three teams represented (Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Western Michigan).

The only movement in the top ten since the preseason rankings were released two weeks ago is Eastern Michigan.  The Eagles moved into the #9 spot, bumping down Indiana and Princeton.

The next women's rankings will be released on Wednesday, January 30. The next men's rankings will be released on Wednesday, January 22.

Here is a list of meets involving one or more ranked teams scheduled to take place before the next women's ranking release:

Friday, January 18

#12 Kent State at Akron

Saturday, January 19

#1 LSU and #5 Arkansas at #2 Texas A&M

#7 Indiana State at #13 Purdue (Gene Edmonds Cup)

Oklahoma State, Tulsa & UMKC at #17 Kansas State (Wildcat Invitational)

Sunday, January 20

#20 Dartmouth and Columbia at Yale

Saturday, January 26

#6 Michigan State vs #8 Michigan

#12 Kent State and SIU-Edwardsville at #16 Illinois State

#9 Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Hillsdale at Grand Valley State

To be considered for the indoor rankings, a team must compete in at least one dual meet during the indoor season, using TFN's definition of a dual meet as a scored meet between four or fewer teams. Rankings will be kept during the outdoor season for an indoor/outdoor composite.

T&FN’s dual meet rankings, compiled by Jesse Squire (www.tracksuperfan.com) are a revival of annual rankings compiled from 1970 to 1995. Last year's men's champions for the combined indoor/outdoor season were the Oregon Ducks. A full compilation of past dual meet rankings can be found at tracksuperfan.com.
