Texas A&M Overtakes Men's #1 Ranking

In the latest edition of Track and Field News magazine's men's Collegiate Dual Meet Rankings, Texas A&M overtakes the #1 ranking after a home victory over then-#1 Arkansas and then-#8 LSU.

The full rankings, with dual meet records:

1. Texas A&M (2-0)
2. Arkansas (2-1)
3. Nebraska (0-0)
4. Indiana (1-0)
5. Texas (0-1)
6. Purdue (1-1)
7. Indiana State (3-1)
8. Eastern Michigan (4-0)
9. Michigan State (3-0)
10. LSU (0-2)
11. Connecticut (3-0)
12. Notre Dame (2-1)
13. Michigan (0-0)
14. Akron (2-1)
15. Kent State (0-1)
16. Kansas State (3-0)
17. Navy (3-0)
18. Alabama (0-0)
19. Princeton (0-1)
20. Missouri (0-0)

Of the top ten teams, only Nebraska and Michigan State still have dual meet competition remaining during the indoor season.

The big competition taking place this week is a renewal of the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry, due to take place at Grand Valley State's indoor facility in Allendale, Michigan.  Their last one-on-one matchup was in 1982, and the Wolverines lead the all-time series with 19 wins to the Spartans' 2 wins, with one tie.  An undercard of sorts will take place earlier in the afternoon when Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Hillsdale take on Grand Valley State.

The meets involving one or more ranked teams scheduled to take place before the next release:

Saturday, January 26
#8 Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Hillsdale at Grand Valley State
#9 Michigan State vs #13 Michigan (at Allendale, MI)
#15 Kent State and SIU-Edwardsville at Illinois State

Saturday, February 2
#17 Navy at Army (Star Meet)

The next men's rankings will be released on Wednesday, February 6. The next women's rankings will be released on Wednesday, January 30.

To be considered for the indoor rankings, a team must compete in at least one dual meet during the indoor season, using TFN's definition of a dual meet as a scored meet between four or fewer teams. Rankings will be kept during the outdoor season for an indoor/outdoor composite.

T&FN’s dual meet rankings, compiled by Jesse Squire (www.tracksuperfan.com) are a revival of annual rankings compiled from 1970 to 1995. Last year's men's champions for the combined indoor/outdoor season were the Oregon Ducks. A full compilation of past dual meet rankings can be found at tracksuperfan.com.
